Jury duty

Civic duty, but….

There has been a change in the way you have to find out if you are to report for jury duty and I don’t like it. I don’t know what other places have to do or go through for this process but from my experience here locally there has been a definite change and I don’t like it because it keeps you in a hold pattern for two weeks.

It used to be that you filled out the form, sent it in, then called at the appointed time to find out if you needed to report for the next week. For the second week, typically, it had been that you would have to call a second time for that week but not always.

So, I had a vacation planned last week and I also got notice that I would have to call for jury duty that week too. So, any plans I had (luckily just a staycation) were immediately out the door and I couldn’t plan anything either because I wasn’t sure if I would have to report. I called at the appointed time and they said call again in two days.

For the entire first week, and now for the entire second week, they have you calling every two days to see if you are going to report to the courthouse the following day. They are literally stringing you along for two weeks instead of just releasing you when they have nothing on the docket.

Highly irritating!

So, I have been in limbo for two weeks, playing jury duty roulette with vacation plans and work because they have a different way of doing things now.

Stupid.

Prisoner swap

The “big news” over the last couple days has been that some basketball “star” being held in Russia on drug charges was released in a prisoner swap for a convicted Russian arms dealer. I don’t believe she should have been released and she should have served the time. I REALLY don’t believe there should have been a prisoner swap, at least not her.

Quite frankly, I have heard that in the past she hasn’t really appreciated all the blessings she has as an American and was maybe taking that for granted. I don’t know, really, if that is true. But if it is true….well, let’s hope she has a hell of a lot more appreciation for her country now.

As Americans, I don’t think we undeerstand how great we have it till it’s gone. Unfortunately, we have quite a few people within our own country trying to take away our (and their own) freedoms.

Makes zero sense.

Get out and vote

I don’t know about your state, but we have elections in ours today. Want to know who’s really stupid? People who choose not to vote.

One thing that has never made sense to me is that people are actually willingly giving up their right to vote by not participating.

They haven’t registered to vote. They haven’t cast a ballot in a long time. They haven’t changed their registration location because they moved. They haven’t voted, for whatever reason…“Oh, I’m not political.”

Whatever! You are political. Every time you complain about the government or those working in it, for it, or around it. You’re political.

Voting is a fundamental right to CITIZENS of the United States. It’s your right. It’s your voice. No vote, no voice. But here’s the thing, it’s REALLY easy to do, if you really care. But even if it isn’t easy, you should still do it! Voting is like breathing, eating, and sleeping. You just should do it because it matters a lot.

Of course, there are those in our country who are not citizens and they vote, which is totally illegal and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. How is it they care more than actual people who are citizens?

Get and vote. Seriously.

Today.

And every other opportunity you have.
