Falling back fail

So, looks like the House of Representatives are going to yet again fail to represent…not sure how there can be much debate about NOT changing the time back an hour. Really? The Senate unanimously agreed (something they NEVER do) to this Sunshine Protection Act and sent the bill to the House. Why have they failed to get this done?

Hey, Congress! Make this Daylight Savings thing permanent! Get your acts together and do it!

Honestly, there really is nothing to debate here. Most experts and the general public agree that DST is the best way and should stay. How can there still be an argument against this change?

A “do nothing Congress”? Typical.

Do something for once that benefits more than one political party – the one in charge at the moment – and start representing!

American demand it.

Changing time

It’s time to change…the change of time…

It’s time to dump the silly “Fall back” and “Spring forward” nonsense. It was probably useful at a time, but that time has passed and it is time to move on. Time is ticking…can’t waste even a second…no time like the present…

(It is weird that there are so many “time” clich├ęs?)

Anyway, WA state passed the necessary laws it needed a while back to stay on Daylight Savings time, but they can’t go into effect unless Congress acts and makes it a federal thing. Thankfully, it has been reintroduced in Congress and it might actually have enough traction to pass this time, or time to pass, or…well, you get it.

Business people, health people, regular people all have said it is time to go. Everyone hates this ritual and there are lots of reasons for it’s time to pass. Let’s just hope Congress get’s their act together and makes it happen. This could be the very last time we need to do it (for those of us that have had to do it since it was instituted).

It’s time to make this change permanent…this time.

What do you think? How do you feel about this issue?

(How many times did I use the word time in this blog about the time change?)

Pork

The amount of pork in the “stimulus” package passed by Congress and challenged by the President, even a lame duck president, is stupid. For a body that says they are trying to help the American people, they sure know how to help themselves to our money. This stuff, among other things, is why so many Americans don’t believe the government is working and is broken beyond repair.

For the record, I don’t believe it is beyond repair. However, I do believe it is not working the way it was intended or should.

Is it really necessary to include money for foreign countries in a bill that is aimed at helping American citizens? Is it really necessary for the country, already in debt, to make it larger to help people outside of the U.S.? Is it really necessary for our congressional representatives to stuff every spending bill with frivolous pork barrel crap just so they can get themselves re-elected and pad every pet project brought to them by the countless lobbyists?

Honestly, there is nothing stimulating about the bill.

For those who need the direct payment, it isn’t enough. For a majority of Americans (including myself), they don’t actually need a direct payment and so it is too much. Once again, Congress isn’t actually addressing the real issues and they have delayed real help by including a massive amount of stupid spending at a time when many Americans are looking at their finances and wondering how to make it from day to day.

Don’t forget the money a government spends wasn’t theirs in the first place. THIS MONEY COMES FROM YOUR POCKET! So, in one way or another, they are taking if from you: payroll taxes, income taxes, sales tax, death tax, capital gains tax, etc. The list is seemingly never ending.

The least you could do is demand that your money be spend in ways that make sense. Spend wisely. Use and follow a budget. Save.

There used to be a joke (maybe it still is a thing) that when you bought stuff from China it was cheap and would break almost immediately. People would say, “You get what you pay for,” meaning the more you pay for an item (in most cases) equates to the quality and durability of the item. Though it is cliche, the thought hold weight because there is some truth to it.

The same can be said of our representative government. We get what we pay for. Unfortunately, most of us can’t pay for a senator or a representative, so the people and companies with real money get what they pay for.

This “stimulus” bill and all the pork in it just proves that’s true…again…

Get on with it

The news is rather tiring these days. Especially the news about this whole “impeachment” thing. Get on with it already. This whole thing isn’t all that historic, as some media outlets would have you believe. What is historic is the partisan crap the people in Congress are trying to feed Americans.

We all know this whole “impeachment” thing is just the Democratic party posturing and trying to find any way possible to discredit the president, whom they have hated from the beginning, even before he was officially a candidate but especially after he defeated the party “Golden Girl,” Clinton. So, in no surprise to anyone, the vote to “impeach” was totally split down party lines. This “urgency” they claim is just that they want it to happen before the next election, not that it has anything to do with protecting the Constitution and the dignity of the office, as they claim.

We all know the president will not be found guilty in the Senate (even if he might be, like Clinton). This too is a complete sham, but if the Democrats in the House won’t even send the “impeachment articles” to the Republican Senate then there won’t be a “trial” at all.

If the Democrats are afraid to follow the necessary steps to allow the Republicans to complete the process, the impeachment really means nothing. Not that it would mean much if he is acquitted either, for we all know there is not even a shred of legitimacy in the whole process.

Let’s have the trial. Follow the process. Complete the stupidity that both parties are continuing to perpetuate. And then let’s move on.

Do the work of the people, not the party.

Monkeys all

I think it is safe to say that Congress continues to demonstrate that we, the American people, have elected a bunch of monkeys to run the country.

I am having a difficult time seeing anything else at this point. Both sides, Republicans and Democrats, continue to live up to the old Mark Twain quote, “There is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”

I am just tired of it.

Nonsense, from everyone, though some seem to be more nonsensical than others.

Monkeys actually might be more civilized. I am sure there could be a serious debate on that point, but in my mind I think it’s probably true. There has to be a better option than the yahoo’s we have “running the country.”

Anyone else tired of this poo slinging behavior and really want them to get about the business of something other than party agendas and political sabotage?
