Arbitrary

No rhyme. No reason. Definitely not science. Just arbitrary rule making and enforcement. That’s just where things have been and are when it comes to a government that is willing to grab power and the ability to make decisions from the people.

A local establishment has caught the wrath of the government because it’s “outdoor dining” doesn’t quite fit the same description as “outdoor dining” that others are doing. No common sense enforcement, just arbitrary wielding of power because some of the local “Karens” have decided the business doesn’t fit, in their judgement, the safety standards set out by the government. Oh, and there isn’t any science to support the enforcement, just opinion and personal preference.

The restaurant in question has five giant garage doors that it can open up to elements. FIVE. Essentially, these are removable walls and is a trend in many other places around the country (dare I say, world?). Difference is that in many places the weather is warm and a nice cross breeze can be generated with the doors open. Here in the Northwest it isn’t warm but when the doors are open at this place there is one hell of a cross breeze, along with some sideways rain, or mist, or general damp air.

In WA, the rules right now say that “outdoor dining” can only take place in a temporary structure with, for all intents and purposes, one open side so there is adequate air flow.

The establishment above, according to the state, doesn’t qualify because it is a permanent structure. Doesn’t matter that two of the major walls of the structure are virtually non-existent then when the doors are open. It doesn’t take a lot of common sense to realize that the walls of the structure are open, regardless of the roof over one’s head being permanent, and there is air flowing through the room like the breeze blowing through a deck or park gazebo.

Hell, there is less air flowing through and airplane but we are allowed to do that? See what I mean? Arbitrary.

So, I know where I’ll be ordering food from this week.

Get out there and support those local businesses you want to see stay open. Hell, get out there and support any local business, because in the end they are your family, friends, and neighbors that working there. Don’t be arbitrary about that support. Be very intentional and very targeted.

On the scene

Masked silliness.

It’s particularly hard to watch the news these days. No, I mean like actually watch it. Like tuning into your local news broadcast news and watch reporters reporting from the scene. Any scene.

Anyone else irritated by the fact that a reporter who is reporting from outside, in the open air, still has their mask on?

There is literally NO REASON to have the mask on while you are out in the fresh air. None. Well, other than if you are following (and trying to reinforce) the narrative being crammed down our throats, oh, and if you are virtue signaling.

We all know how the reporting thing works. We’ve seen how you do it for years. We know the person operating the camera for your “on the scene” reporting is likely more than six feet away from you. The reporter isn’t interviewing anyone for this “on the scene” report. Thus, there is no practical reason for having the mask on.

I see it time and again. The other day I saw a reporter who was along the side of a highway, where the wind blows furiously, with his mask on while reporting about cars parked along the highway. Like, he does know he is outside, right? He does know the wind is blowing like the dickens, right? He does know there is not a chance that he can catch or spread the virus while her reports here, right?

It’s actually kind of stupid that these reporters are perpetuating the fear instead of accurately reflecting the guidance we have been given about being out of doors. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen one reporter yet who actually has done a report of this kind without a mask. So, have then been instructed to perform this way?

That’s not objective reporting.

But, we already know they don’t really do that any longer.

Clean air

If you are still doing this, then you’re an idiot.

Or if you are now doing this, you’re an idiot.

If you are trying to defending doing either of these, you’re an even bigger idiot.

We all know now that smoking is bad for you. There is no doubt about it. Not only does it waste your money, but it destroys your body…and you do it knowing full well the consequences.

However, this whole vaping thing replaced the smoking trend with a “safer” alternative. Yeah, so much for that right? If you have followed the news at all, you know it isn’t going to end well.

This “safer” trend has been around a lot less time than smoking. Yet, it has taken significantly less time to show that it isn’t any safer. But, for some reason people think that putting something that doesn’t come from a cigarette into your lungs is better for you. Weird logic, don’t you think?

Look, it is pretty simple. The only think that should be going into your lung, for any reason, is air. Clean air (as clean as it can be).

That is all. There is nothing you can substitute it with and you can’t logically make an argument for anything else. If the American Lung Association tells you to avoid smoking, smog, and household chemicals, etc. then obviously any foreign substance – “safer” or not – shouldn’t be put into your lungs.

Honestly, I don’t even understand how this can be a debatable issue.

Idiots.

Leave me some air!

We all know one. We all probably work with one. You know the one…

You know, the one person in your life (hopefully you only have one) from your extended family or a co-worker that talks a mile a minute and won’t let anyone get a single word in? You know, the person who talks so fast they literally suck the air out of the room so no one else has a chance to contribute to the conversation, which usually ends up being one sided?

Ah, you do have one. You are thinking of them now, and it irritates you even now just thinking about it…

This one is for you today. This one is for you to at least have the chance to get three words in. You don’t have to explain. You don’t have to name names (unless it will make you feel better). All you have to do is leave a comment with their relationship to you. Examples = Brother in law; lady in the cubicle next to me; the boss; my last date; etc.

Go ahead. You’ll feel better. This air is just for you….inhale, exhale….breathe….and release…

Breath of fresh air

I have a little dog that sleeps on the bed.

It wasn’t my choice, but it sleeps better (as in all night) and we don’t have to let it out to go pee in the middle of the night if we let it sleep there.

Sometimes, it has gas. And good lord, does that little body produce some terrible odor! How in the world does something that small make such a foul smell? It doesn’t seem to matter what it eats, it just has gas.

Sometimes I get up in the middle of the night, which I hate doing, just so I can breathe.

Do you know of anyone or anything that makes you have to get up and leave for fresh air?

Oops, sorry…

It’s so damn smoky here in WA that I can’t hardly see my keyboard. Air quality sucks and visibility sucks even more. Those beautiful mountains that are normally in the distance, snow capped peaks and such, are all gone. It is like we are suddenly living on a flat Earth (stop it! Stop. It. I know what you’re thinking – that was a simile).

I.Can’t.Breathe.

I.Can’t.Think.

Someone stop putting the fires out every year so we can breathe a little easier next year. Yeah, that is actually how it works. Just saying…

Anyway, give me a shout out if you can’t breathe as well. Or give me a shout out because you can take in lungs full of clean air and have the energy to shout.
