Not forgotten

Yes, I haven’t been on here as of late. It’s been hard.

Not because I don’t want to. It’s because it has been so freaking busy at work (like unusually busy) that it just makes it hard to find time to get anything written.

The end of the school year is upon us and schools are trying to figure out how to navigate all the new rules, special situations, and data reporting needs, etc. so they can close out their educational year. The phones are ringing off the hook. The emails are none stop.

Add on top of that a handful of districts preparing for data migration to a newer version of the software and its hard to find time to breathe.

Anyway, I just wanted you all to know that I haven’t forgotten about you. Ya’ll are still on my mind, just not the only thing on it…

Hopefully things will slow down a little in a while and I get get back to my usual grumpiness.

Until then, keep an eye out for an occasional grumble, whine, complaint, or just a plain pissy point about common sense (or lack thereof).

Lacking

Time.

Content.

Motivation.

Actually, there is plenty of content and motivation. I have been making drafts like crazy for things I want to Piss and Moan about, but I haven’t done a very good job of getting this stuff ready to publish ahead of time. Work as been so busy that my mornings and the usual time that I post stuff has gotten away from me. It’s hard to keep up when you’re buried.

So, nothing new today except excuses. Sorry.

Guess I better do a better job of planning to get content out and get those drafts written so there is content ready to go before I start new stuff.

Apparently I took the day off yesterday. I don’t think I meant to as I totally remember thinking to myself that I needed to write something and click publish. But, between family in the house and the coffee cup, I must have gotten distracted and forgotten what I was doing.

So, thanks to those of you who still stopped by yesterday, even if there wasn’t something new to read.

Maybe I needed a day off. I am not sure. Of course, here in the US it was a holiday. As such, I wasn’t at the office and I wasn’t doing my telecommute thing. The schedule was off so I guess so was I.

Here’s the weird thing though. When I am off, like off from work because of a holiday, there is scorn in the house. Scorn because the holiday doesn’t relieve everyone in the house of their work responsibilities. Because I get a day off and get to do what I want to do, I get scorn. I hear things like:

“What did you do today?”

“What did you get done today?”

“How were you productive today?”

“What did you do with yourself today?”

It’s some version of that. Scorn.

How about I just get to take time off for me? How about I get to do what I want on these days because I can? How about I just get to do me today?

I am off. I have no work. I don’t feel like doing work at home today either. In fact, I left a 15 year career in teaching so I didn’t have to dedicate my whole life to work, even when I wasn’t at work. Get it?

I.AM.OFF.

(Oh, and for the record, I cleaned the house and put away laundry since dinner guests were coming. There. I did something.)

Now, leave me alone.

***Dang, back to work today…***

“Get off me!”

Every hear anyone yell that at someone?

Of course you have! You may have even yelled it yourself.

Well, today, it is so busy I just want to yell it at life.

Seriously, Life, get off me.

I have enough stuff to do without you bothering me, which is why this post is so late today….

GET OFF ME!

Flew

Did anyone catch that last weekend? It seemed to have flown by so quickly that I am not sure I even had one!

How is it that our weekends get so busy that we just don’t feel like we had one?

Travel. Activities. Chores. Family. Gatherings. More Travel. Socializing.

I just don’t feel like I had much time for anything, yet I actually did a lot.

But the weekend was gone so fast that I didn’t get much of anything done that I wanted to get done or that I needed to get done.

I think we need more weekends and fewer work days. That should take care of the problem.

Most definitely.

WTH?

Almost noon and I am just getting to this thing. Bet you thought I wasn’t going to do it, right?

Friday. 13th. Full moon.

Stuff nightmares are made of. There must have been a solar flare last night or something because computer issues and software issues all morning long for clients. Either that or they have forgotten how their stuff works.

Either way it was crazy busy this morning. Hopefully we are in the eye of the storm right now and the backside will be better than the front.

Can I just go home already? I am ready to sit and drink.

Do you notice weird crap going on during days like this or do you think it is just a mental thing?

It’s been crazy busy at work of the last two weeks. Like no time to think, not time to breathe busy…

I think I hit my wall yesterday and today isn’t looking any better.

Today, I just “Don’t Wanna Do Squat” (you can replace the S-word with whatever you like, but this is almost a family show here….). I just wanna sit and veg out and just not do any work. I’ve had enough. I wanna check out. Cab please!

There has to be a solution for this feeling. Oh yeah, it’s called being wealthy.

Damn.

Guess I’ll do more work, reluctantly.

Hellofaday

exercise

Yesterday. Yesterday was a hellofaday.

Remember that morning minute I talked about yesterday? Yeah, that one minute was all I got of quiet and calm.

Work was a…b….bear…yeah, that’s it… It was busy as hell and I got absolutely NOTHING I planned to get done, done. Everyone, it seems, needed help for with or for something. The phones were off the hook and meetings popped up outta nowhere.

A co-worker sent me the graphic above. That about sums up my energy at the end of the day.

The busy season has begun.

Deep breath

Time to breath.

It was rushed this morning. Not that it isn’t most mornings, but when you’re leaving town directly after work and not returning home beforehand, well that adds an extra dimension of stress.

Did I get everything? What am I forgetting? Have I taken care of everything at home so I don’t have to worry about it while I’m gone?

Yeah, it might be a bit of self-imposed stress but it is stress nonetheless.

The thing is, we don’t really need to stress about it. If we forgot something, just go to the store. Right? Yeah. Not really that big of a deal, but we do it to ourselves anyway.

So, I sit in my cube and recount the morning…check, yes, ok, check, check, um…check, alright. Let it go.

Just let it go.

Morning that got away

Traffic accident on the commute.

Nearly late for usual Friday morning meeting.

Email.

More meetings.

Doing my job.

Yeah, the morning got away from me and there is no getting it back, as it is 12:25pm (my time). As such, the post today is 4.5 hours later than normal. So sorry.

AS you can imagine, that’s really annoying and I need to plan farther ahead. It’s just hard to keep up some days. A plate will fall once in a while.

Or a few plates.

How is your day? Have you had one get away from you lately?
