Well, it seems Cyber Monday is more of the same when it comes to sales.

So far, I haven’t seen anything that would lead me to believe that the sales today (Cyber Monday) are any better than they were for Black Friday, just three days ago.

To me, it looks like companies have just recycled and re-branded their websites with “Cyber Monday” sales banners. As such, many of the items that I was browsing around on Friday are the same exact price today.

I guess Cyber Monday got me underwhelmed just like Friday.

Ho-hum.

Bah-humbug.

WordPress comment spam

Good grief. Have you taken a look at your comment spam folder?

It’s kind of ridiculous how much comment spam gets generated! How do you even spam comments in the first place? There’s got to be a better way for WordPress to keep this from happening than just throwing them in a folder.

I guess I am glad they catch all this stuff instead of me having to wade through it every day; however, if there was a legitimate comment that actually gets caught in there, how would I ever find it? I know I have had it happen and luckily I caught it early enough before the folder exploded.

Why do people do this in the first place? How do companies combat this crap?

Watch out. Someone is trying to jack your stuff and it ain’t cool.

More specifically, after doing a little research (not the info is a little old, but still applies), they are trying to jack your wallet via your phone bill. This is actually called “SMiShing.” Walmart has a whole page about different scams they have seen.

The scary thing here is that the text message had my correct first name and middle initial, I have used the Walmart app and have an online account, and I have recently shopped at the store. So, it would appear legit at first glance.

I am a suspicious person (as in I don’t trust easily) so I didn’t just click on the link they included in the text. However, if you aren’t a suspicious person, you may have just gone right ahead and clicked to see what it was all about – even if you didn’t intend on following through with anything once you got there. Don’t do it.

I have no idea who or what the phone number at the top of the screen shot is. Didn’t call it, but if you are brave you could do it if you like and let me know what happens. I don’t advise it, however.

People who try to scam other people are losers. They are big time jackwagons. They are (insert desired word here). Whatever you want to call them, it just ain’t cool.

Training presenters

Every been to a training where the presenters were good? Every been to one where they were bad…or really bad?

I didn’t post yesterday because I was at a training and I didn’t have the forethought to get something written ahead of time. So, I missed a day (that wasn’t a weekend) for the first time in over a year. How about that? Well, that isn’t really the important thing here.

Training presenters are an important part to having a successful training, not only from the organization doing the training but also for those there to get the training. I have been to a lot of bad trainings this week.

Yesterday, took the cake though. The morning session was good, but not great. The afternoon was simply painful. I can only describe it with the following analogy:

You are driving along a paved road, making relatively good time at near the speed limit. You are able to focus on the road ahead and see into the distance, making it possible to make adjustments to your understanding of the situation as it arises.

Suddenly, you leave the paved road only to find yourself driving on a pothole filled gravel road where you are bouncing around so violently that maintaining any sort of vision on the roadway becomes difficult at best. You are so jostled and frazzled that it is exhausting just to keep driving.

The training ends by pulling off to the side of the road and getting out of the car.

Get the picture? The morning was OK, but the afternoon had nothing about it that made it worthwhile.

I have complained about this presenter/trainer previously, but the organization keeps running the person out there anyway. And those of us trying to get trained, just keep suffering along the way.

3 Musketeers

Disappointment abounds when your mouth encounters this candy bar. Sorry if you like it…but I honestly can’t see why you would. It’s kind of like eating the chocolate covered marshmallow in the picture above. What’s the point?

Eating a 3 Musketeers is sort of like eating chocolate covered air.

It isn’t satisfying at all.

All for one and one for all, it isn’t. You need to eat about four of them to get any sort of content and then you feel really guilty because you ate all that sugar.

Best policy is to just stay away from them all together. Then there is no guilt and most of all, you won’t be disappointed for eating nothing.

Closer

Getting to the airport is kind of a pain.

I wish I lived closer to the “main” airport in WA state. That would be Sea-Tac International Airport. It truly is the biggest transit hub of the western side of the state.

Actually, let me rephrase that since I live within 30 minutes of two regional airports. They both have expanded their service, but they have a very limited number of airlines that fly in/out of these locations so unless you are looking specifically for flights from those airlines you are out of luck and have to go to Sea-Tac.

Hence, I was at up long before the crack of dawn to get to the airport for a drop off. Long before as in I was up at 2:30am, left the house at 3:15am, arrived at the airport at 4:45am for a 5:45am flight. Thankfully that early in the morning doesn’t necessitate a two hour prior arrival for security lines.

But still…that’s early and I have a full day of work ahead of me on about 3.5 hours of sleep. Oh, did I mention I had two hours to kill before actually getting to work since I was so freaking early?

Gonna be a long day.

Tax revolt

Once again, in WA state, there has been a tax revolt.

People are tired of paying unnecessarily high taxes on things like car registration tabs.

We have had two initiatives in this state in the last several decades where the people have clearly said, “ENOUGH!” Twice the citizens of the state (not just one city and county) have said, “$30 – no more, no less.” This is one of the very few times that the rest of the state has told Seattle and King County what it wants versus the other way around, where the population of Seattle and King County out vote the rest of the state to dictate what happens in areas around the state.

So, the latest version passed of the car tabs issue passed on Tuesday, again.

And for what will be the second time, the government is going to sue (yes, you read that right, the government) to get their taxes back. Let that sink in. The government is going to sue to stop the will of the people, who used the democratic process and voted on it, just so they can get their funding back.

If that doesn’t smack of government abuse and overreach, I don’t know what does.

It just goes to show you, once you give the government the ability to oversee your rights, freedom, and money…

…you’ll lose all three.

Frosted

Why aren’t all freezers “frost free”?

I am asking myself that as I face the prospect of having to defrost a large chest freezer before stocking it full of beef this weekend.

It can’t really be that the tech is that expensive, so why isn’t a frost free function on a freezer standard? Anyone?

Frosted freezers make the task of making them frost free not very cool. In fact, it burns me up.

Etiquette.

“Reply All” should never be used.

Unless there is an extreme need (i.e. an extenuating circumstance that requires mass communication) to a previously sent message or it is mutually agreed upon between all parties involved that a conversation should take place via email.

Otherwise, you may be signing yourself up for a throat punch.

Seriously people. Seriously.

I don’t need to see your reply to the cute puppy picture someone sent out. I don’t care if you have grandkids to share if someone has sent a picture of their grandkids. In almost every case, I don’t need your two cents. I don’t need to see your comment about anything someone sent out that isn’t directly pertinent to me.

We have enough email to wade through on a daily basis, let alone to have to deal with people inane comments about stuff that is only remotely related to me. And by remotely, I mean I happen to work in the same organization.

Good grief. Stop using the Reply All!
