Noon

Noon, and all I wanna do is sit down.

Technically, I have been sitting all morning while I work.

But I mean like actually sit down and relax. Actually, you probably already know what I meant without me having to say it. I think we would all just like to sit down and put our feet up.

It’s July 17, 2020, and we are now officially more than halfway through the year.

That’s not real comforting to know that when it feels like we have been through three years in the last six months. Right?

The next six months is shaking out to be another 4 years worth of issues. How fun will that be?

Anyone else just…tired?

Tired physically, emotionally, and of anything and everything?

Morning flight

Travel day has arrived! To say that I am excited might be an understatement. Sun, baseball, buddies, beer, food,…yeah, it’s gonna be a blast.

Unfortunately, the start hasn’t been completely smooth.

I left the house one time and got the the airport exactly as anticipated. Grabbed the small suitcase, pulled up the handle for better handling while rolling, and headed to check in for my flight. I was checking the bag (it’s free) so I didn’t bother to check in early.

I got to the kiosk, checked in, and went to put the handle down on the suitcase and it won’t go down…like not move, at all….I pushed. I shoved. I pulled. I pounded. I tried finessing it. NOTHING. It isn’t moving. Great.

I am not unpacking this thing to see if I can get the bars for the handle to move from the inside. Oh, and I didn’t happen to bring my hacksaw with me so I can’t cut the dang thing off.

I asked the luggage people what I should do. They said, “We’ll still check it.” REALLY? Thank goodness!

Stress melted away.

Coffee is being consumed and I am waiting to board my flight. Let’s hope that is the only challenge faced during this trip.

Flew

Did anyone catch that last weekend? It seemed to have flown by so quickly that I am not sure I even had one!

How is it that our weekends get so busy that we just don’t feel like we had one?

Travel. Activities. Chores. Family. Gatherings. More Travel. Socializing.

I just don’t feel like I had much time for anything, yet I actually did a lot.

But the weekend was gone so fast that I didn’t get much of anything done that I wanted to get done or that I needed to get done.

I think we need more weekends and fewer work days. That should take care of the problem.

Most definitely.

It’s Friday and I need it.

Anyone else feel like this week was extra long and extra trying? Me too.

Estimates are now coming in for the room replacement/repair and, boy, it ain’t pretty. They are about $5-8k more than I expected they would be. Now the challenge is having to find a way to pay for this thing.

Meanwhile, the rainy season continues and the hope that temporary bandaids on the roof are going to work for at least a month (as that is about how long, apparently, it takes to get a HELOC – even when the bank is the one that already owns your mortgage).

So, I will try to survive this day and hope that a couch and a beer will waiting at home will help let the week’s stress go.

How bad do you need this Friday and weekend?

One day. Just make it through the day.

Friday before a long weekend. Will it be busy? The hope is that it won’t be because district employees will be taking advantage of their last long weekend of the summer. Alas, the hope had died on the vine…

We are already running and I don’t think we have hit the ground yet.

The flood of support tickets continues. At one point yesterday, I had six open support tickets and trying to support them all at the same time. Today, I already have two to start with. Hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.

Watch out people! The weekend is nearly upon us. Keep your head down today, enter survival mode, and make it through the day. Just one last push to weekend freedom!

It’s been crazy busy at work of the last two weeks. Like no time to think, not time to breathe busy…

I think I hit my wall yesterday and today isn’t looking any better.

Today, I just “Don’t Wanna Do Squat” (you can replace the S-word with whatever you like, but this is almost a family show here….). I just wanna sit and veg out and just not do any work. I’ve had enough. I wanna check out. Cab please!

There has to be a solution for this feeling. Oh yeah, it’s called being wealthy.

Damn.

Guess I’ll do more work, reluctantly.

Hellofaday

exercise

Yesterday. Yesterday was a hellofaday.

Remember that morning minute I talked about yesterday? Yeah, that one minute was all I got of quiet and calm.

Work was a…b….bear…yeah, that’s it… It was busy as hell and I got absolutely NOTHING I planned to get done, done. Everyone, it seems, needed help for with or for something. The phones were off the hook and meetings popped up outta nowhere.

A co-worker sent me the graphic above. That about sums up my energy at the end of the day.

The busy season has begun.

Deep breath

Time to breath.

It was rushed this morning. Not that it isn’t most mornings, but when you’re leaving town directly after work and not returning home beforehand, well that adds an extra dimension of stress.

Did I get everything? What am I forgetting? Have I taken care of everything at home so I don’t have to worry about it while I’m gone?

Yeah, it might be a bit of self-imposed stress but it is stress nonetheless.

The thing is, we don’t really need to stress about it. If we forgot something, just go to the store. Right? Yeah. Not really that big of a deal, but we do it to ourselves anyway.

So, I sit in my cube and recount the morning…check, yes, ok, check, check, um…check, alright. Let it go.

Just let it go.

Only one thing on my mind

I know you have heard about it in the news and I am sure everyone somewhere has an opinion about it. Well, as it so happens, so do I and I am gonna tell you about it. Only my opinion is probably not what you think it will be.

If I were a furloughed federal employee, I would be doing what every single working sap in the world wishes they could be doing if they didn’t have to go to work every day…

HOLDING DOWN THE COUCH.

That’s right.¬† I would make for damn sure that couch didn’t go anywhere. It ain’t leaving the room (unless I get evicted) and it ain’t getting occupado’d by someone else’s butt. It is all mine. All mine! I tell you, these workers have the unique opportunity to hold down a couch (or recliner, their choice) for extended periods of time and yet some of them are complaining about it. What gives? You better make the most of it while the sitting is good because pretty soon you are gonna have to get your hustle back on.

Most of us don’t like our jobs that much to be happy about having to work and most of us would rather do something that isn’t productive or taxing. Holding down the couch is perfect¬† in my book.

Sure, it’s an unpaid vacation. Sure, it might make paying bills tough. Sure, food might become a luxury rather than a necessity…but I’ll bet you won’t find those workers cutting other things out of their budgets, like cell phones, Netflix, cable, etc. etc. etc.

So, what’s all the complaining about? At least you have a couch, right?

Fill ‘er up!

You know how you have a day coming up that you’re gonna have off work?

How you look forward to that day because you get to sleep in, relax, enjoy your coffee, leisurely read the news or a book, watch a movie or tv show, or just take things slow and enjoy a different pace than a normal day?

Yeah, well, that day off can completely go in the other direction too, right?

How about the day of you look forward to gets all filled up with things that have to be done before the holiday comes and people come over and etc., etc., etc.? That it fills up so fast it hardly feels like a day off? Dashing from here to there, frantically trying to fit more things in on your list because you forgot this and that, and it all needs to be done!

Isn’t it amazing how life just kind of takes over even when you think you’re gonna get a break?

Well, today is that day for me. My to do list seems to be a mile long and all I wanna do is just it. Relax. Enjoy some quiet. Savor the change in routine….but not today!

What’s on your list that just HAS to be done today?
