Towel throwing

At what point do you just, “Throw in the towel?” Literally, if we throw the towel into the washing machine we don’t know if it will actually get cleaned or not.

At the beginning of March, we bought a Kenmore washing machine from Costco.com. It wasn’t the cheapest model, but it also wasn’t the most expensive. We decided that we didn’t really need something fancy, but one with “triple action” agitation without the agitator sounded good. We had it delivered, mostly because they would haul the old machine away at no charge and then I wouldn’t have to do it.

The new Kenmore washer didn’t work correctly from the very beginning. No matter what I did to it to try and “balance” it, it sounded like there was a body inside of the machine and that it was bouncing around inside the laudry room. When I finally did get it close to balanced it squeaked and squealed like a pig getting chased around it’s pen. It was taking two, sometimes three, “Drain & Spin” cycles to get a load dry enough to even put into the dryer.

I called the repair service. Mind you, this was a new washer and it was only two months into it.

The first guy came out and said it was the drive belt and clutch. Ordered parts. Service is covered by warranty.

Parts arrived. Second guy comes out and says the first guy didn’t actually diagnos the issue correctly and the parts that were ordered weren’t needed. Second guy dug into the machine and said, “I have been doing this a lot of years and I have never seen this part (can’t remember which one he said) in that color. I am going to replace it.” Luckily, he had several parts in his van that he said needed repaired. He left and it supposedly was repaired.

The very next load run through it again sounded like someone was in the machine. Stopped the load, tried to balance it out (which by appearances it looked fine), still banging. More loads. More banging and squealing.

So, today after work, I get to unhook the thing and haul it back to the local Costco.

I have no idea what the plan is to replace it.

Perhaps running water and some rocks in the backyard.

Whack-a-mole car

Whack-a-mole can be kind of a fun game. But, after a while it gets rather tiring and you just wanna give up and rip the whacker off the game and just whack anything that moves.

I have gotten to that point with my teen daughter’s car. I am tired of playing whack-a-mole on maintenance issues that never seem to stop. I swear this car has become a “money pit” for repairs. Just when you think you have it fixed and it should be good for a while…not so much.

UGH!!

Anyone have a couple thousand dollars they wanna donate to just buy a different used car for her? Didn’t think so. I don’t either.

After having the alternator and battery replaced in the last two weeks, now we have an apparent coolant leak. It’s not running out onto the ground. It doesn’t appear that any hoses are busted. So, that leads me to believe it is probably going into places in the engine it doesn’t belong.

UGH!!

Did I already say that? Sorry. I am just not sure what else to say.

 

In the gutter

Actually, the title is a lie because it has nothing to do with being in the gutter and everything to do with not being in the gutter.

Good service is hard to come by these days. That seems to be a common cry from and about all sorts of industries. People just don’t get the service they deserve or expect (I realize in a “me first” society what you deserve and what you expect may be two different things). First and foremost, you expect that people will be honest. Next, you expect that they will do their best to make sure your experience is great so that you recommend them. What you deserve is the best treatment possible with honesty and integrity, without you having to demand that minimum.

Anyway, there is an issue with one of the gutters on the house. It needs to be replaced because it has literally rotted from gunk sitting in it. This is partially due to my neglect and partially due to the fact that it was shoddily repaired about 5 years ago (again by me, who is/was and inexperienced gutter repairman). Because of the way I repaired it, it was difficult to clean and it didn’t drain correctly which allowed it to collect debris and then just cause the metal of the gutter to rust and break. Yeah, I didn’t do my duty on that one.

So, it has come time for a professional to get the job done right. I didn’t expect that I would get someone out the minute I called and I accounted for some delay in getting the repair done. I realize that they likely have other jobs they are doing. However, I didn’t expect that one company would tell me that it would be two weeks before they could come out to do an estimate and another company to tell me a price over the phone (it’s not a big job, just 26′ of straight gutter) and tell me he would fit it in between jobs.

So, I cancelled the estimate from the company with estimate delay and went with the company who said they would be out between jobs…only now it has been two weeks and still no one has come to fix the gutter. And guess what? It’s now the rainy season (I mean, come on, when is it not in WA?) and the rains are running down the roof, going straight through the broken gutter, and promptly flooding the yard.

Thanks gutter, dude. Thanks a lot.
