Conference workshop boredom

Every had to travel for work to attend a workshop or conference, only to regret that you went because the boredom is excruciating?

Yeah. That was me yesterday. And I have another day to go. Boring…

To top it all off, I have a co-worker sitting next to me that wants to talk about everything and has to say something about everything. So, not only is the presentation boring, but the person next to me won’t shut up and is annoying.

Perhaps I can hangout with the coffee machine. It at least provides something interesting, and I am going to need it today.

More coffee please!

I’ve got the power (or not)!

OK, not really. I am actually kind of a little irritated that I don’t have the power.

I am traveling for work and I am in a hotel (Hilton) for a couple nights. It isn’t a bad room, except for one thing…

The room has all of one USB outlet! Um, hello! How can a modern hotel have only one USB outlet? A newer hotel. Poor planning, don’t ya think? Luckily I have other ways to plug in my devices.

The last time I had to do this, the hotel had six USB outlets in the room. So, I wonder what gives?

What are your travel complaints, irritations, or annoyances?

The long pause…

You know what I dislike greatly about texting with someone? The long pause between responses.

Now, I understand if there isn’t an actual conversation going on. You know, a text here or there because you both are busy and whatnot. But what I really dislike is that after say 12-15 texts, all of the sudden they appear to have disappeared. Minutes tick away as you wait for a response…then you get a response so you respond immediately and then it takes more minutes to get a response…irritating, I tell ya. If you can’t talk or continue the conversation, just say so.

Am I the only one who thinks it rude?

Costco is killing the Polish

Costco is killing the Polish and in some ways they are killing a small piece of each of us.

Goodbye cheap lunch. Goodbye cheap dinner. Goodbye cheap date night (errr, ummm…).

The Polish dog is going away at Costco and I can say I am none too pleased. Not happy at all! That was my go-to food staple. It was nearly a must when you visited the store. Sure, I am going to still be able to get the plain ol’ hot dog, but that is not the same and it won’t make me happy like the Polish did. Comfort food it was, and now I am just left with discomfort as I mourn its death.

I am not sure who is making these decisions for Costco, but in my opinion he/she is an idiot. Replacing it with “healthy options”…  #smh #wth #sad

They are implying that the Polish was “unhealthy”. Well, the only unhealthy thing about this is going to be their bottom line when the customers revolt and refuse to buy that other crap.

See the article below and feel my pain:

Costco food court changes, say goodbye to the polish dog and hello to healthy options

Seriously, guys, why so slobbish?

Photo by Markus Spiske freeforcommercialuse.net on Pexels.com

I am going to go out on a generalization limb here…guys are freaking slobs (moan).

I know, there is something weird about me saying that since I am one but I don’t think I am a slob and I think my wife would agree if you asked her. I pick up after myself. I put stuff away, where I found it. I clean. Maybe, I am the oddity?

Anyway, my place of employment shares a building with another organization and I can safely say that the guys in the other organization are freaking slobs. I can safely say that because my company only has three males at this location and two of them are on vacation – leaving me as the only guy in the building that doesn’t belong to the people upstairs.

That being said, guys, if you can’t aim that “waste disposal tube” at the urinal and get every drop in there – then sit the hell down! Why do guys have such a hard time with this? At work, at the ballpark, at a restaurant, in a Honeybucket, you name it and there is likely piss all over the place…the edge of the urinal, the wall, the floor…every. freaking.where. Seriously? Get a grip, and I mean that quite literally.

So you move from one gross mess to the next. After leaving the “splash-o-rama urinal,” you turn around to wash your hands and it looks like a baby elephant just took a freaking bath in the sink. There is water everywhere and its puddled up all over the counter! #WTH  Did any water actually make it back in the sink? Good grief people! Clean up after yourselves.

Seriously, you guys are gross.

*Pictures are not from my actual building because that would be gross, and why would I make you guys put up with that too?*

Freedom requires responsibility

img_4855

Well, it was July 4th yesterday, as most of you are aware I am sure (at least my U.S. readers). That’s right, a celebration of our independence and freedom. However, the independence and freedom we were celebrating yesterday also comes with some responsibility.

I am generally not opposed to freedom, though I also am a believer that if you allow people to be stupid by choice, well, they’ll take advantage of it. I mean, most people have common sense but there are way more people out there that lack it and, quite frankly, probably run from it. That is a discussion for another day…

Anyway, we did something out of the ordinary and didn’t stay close to home. Instead, we went to a big city, with lots of people. I like to people watch and my general sense that people are dumb was confirmed, as usual.

In Washington, pot (weed, marijuana, ganja, whatever you wanna call it) is legal. Not only is it legal, but if you are 21 you can pretty much smoke it openly (though technically it is illegal in public, no one enforces it). As such, people use their freedom (or is it take advantage of their freedom?). Yesterday was no exception.

The sad part is that it was in the open, with lots of people (many of whom by the looks on their faces) who didn’t smoke, AND with children in close proximity. When I say children, I mean from infant to teens. Not just their own kids, but other families’ also. When I say close proximity, I mean within 2 feet all the way up to 30. Needless to say, there were lots of people getting the second-hand smoke and many were not pleased about it.

I am not on board with smoking, anything, but I recognize people will do what they want to do if allowed to. I am sure these people light up often in their own personal space, where it should be kept. BUT, if you have children or there are children around then you should refrain. PERIOD. If you choose to do it to your own body, fine. Secondary smoke is not acceptable, especially if the littlest are exposed and they have no say in the matter at all. Yes, I could have gotten up and moved. I get it. However, I am sure the children of these particular people are subjected to that second-hand smoke on a regular basis, especially since they so boldly and openly smoked right there with hundreds of others who were not smoking.

It makes me sad, really. Thoughtlessness prevails, again. Responsibility fails, again. Freedom isn’t always a good thing and stupid people prove it, again.

**Trigger warning: This post may cause rage. Best solution, common sense. If you have it, then the rage is probably appropriately place. If you don’t have it, then you are probably part of the problem.**

Keep it down!

Happy 4th of July. Happy Independence Day. Happy “we gave the Brits a middle finger” day. Whatever you call, it should be happy.

Let’s chat about this holiday for a second. Well, two things on this holiday. It is such a contradictory holiday in the US these days (and I am not even talking about the political stuff).

First, we, the people, are supposed to be free and have independence, right? Yet, on this holiday you can’t hardly “blow crap up” because everything is banned and illegal. That’s right, I live in one of THOSE communities that say, basically, “if it leaves the ground, it’s illegal.” WTH? Independence Day and I can’t celebrate the hell out of it by blowing crap up the way I want to??? How is that independence? No one really enjoys sparklers (unless you tape the together and make a big explosion out of them) and no one really likes those fountain things that spew bright colors. People want big booms, I cannot lie.

Second, can we keep it to just one day? For all the holy hell, can we keep the loud noises and disruption of sleep to just one day and night? It’s not Independence Week or Independence Month. It is a day! Let’s just do it for the dogs…it scares the heck outta them. It is hard to put the dog out into the yard so it can take care of business only to have random explosions and loud noises going of for a week before and after the holiday. I guess we probably should do it for the vets too (thought I never heard anyone from the Greatest Generation complain about the holiday before. But really, let’s just do it for the dogs. Well, and me because I am tired of finding the dog cowering behind the toilet in the bathroom.

Happy Independence Day!

THAT neighbor…

You guys, I have one of THOSE neighbors.

You know, that neighbor that seems to have no sense of time and makes noise at all hours of the day and night.

When he first moved in he got dogs. They bark at all hours of the day, all day long. Well, to be fair, just one of the dogs barks. The other one seems to be able to maintain control of his barking. I secretly think maybe the other dog gets annoyed at the barking like I do.

He put in a hot tub in the back yard. Great, I like hot tubs. But, he has friends over and then they laugh and talk and drink and smoke and seem to have no idea what time it is. So, late into the night there are people talking next door. Again, not a bad thing, but during the summer our windows are open and can hear everything, which means we are awake when he is awake.

Now, since it is summer and the days are longer, he thinks that he needs to use every daylight hour available to him. We live in the city, not on a farm, so there are more neighbors around than just me. Yet, this morning there was hammering, an air wrench, and a chainsaw…all before 6:30am. Again, our windows are open in the house, so we’re all up at the crack of dawn.

Dude, get a grip! Let’s have a little decency when it comes to noise pollution.

Abnormally large litter

img_4824.jpg

There are these companies in Seattle that put out these bikes so people can ride them whenever and wherever they want. Great concept, but execution sucks hardcore.

img_4823.jpgNow, when you are in and around Seattle, you see these stupid unattended bikes littering street corners, parks, lakes, alleys, rivers, etc. all over the city. I have even seen on the news that they are getting tossed off bridges and getting destroyed. Obviously there are others who don’t like them too.

Do people really ride these things? I haven’t seen anyone, have you? But I sure see them left everywhere. Yesterday, in a short four block walk, I saw about 70 bikes in various states of rest. I only captured four on camera because I could have spent an hour trying to take a picture of all of them. I just don’t see how this improves anything. We might as well buy a fleet of Tesla cars, charge them, and then leave them unlocked and pay-walled around the city. At least then they would be parked and not just left willy-nilly everywhere.

Like I said, concept may be good, but the execution leaves something to be desired. Are we so desperate for transportation in the city that we have to put up with abnormally large litter?
