Old sport

Over the weekend I tried a sport/game (whatever you wanna classify it as) that I hadn’t really done since college. It’s a novel sport, as in it doesn’t enjoy widespread popularity but is becoming more and more popular. How do I know? Well, you are probably seeing these weird contraptions show up in public parks – a wire and chain basket on a pole.

Disc golf.

I had a friend in college who was an avid disc golf fan and he always managed to get a group of us out to go play with him. It was fun, but I wasn’t sure at the time that I really liked it.

I liked actual golf better. Let’s just say that.

Anyway, I had a friend invite me out for a round of disc golf over the weekend. I hadn’t really considered it, even though I am seeing those baskets all over the place now. So, I said yes.

We met at the park. There is a learning curve and technique to the game. But, I had fun. And it got me off the couch and outta the house. A win-win.

What I didn’t realize would happen is that I am an OLD sport, meaning that I am really sore today (two days after the fact). My arm and shoulder are not used to that motion and I am fully aware of those parts of my body today as they scream at me even while moving my arm to type.

Old.

The reality of being able to recover quickly from activity just isn’t the case any more. I miss those days. But, it’s reality today.

I am sport, just an old sport.

Tears

Just gotta get through one more school year, baby girl.

So, there have been times over the many years when I have picked up my daughter from her mom and she was upset. Sometimes more obviously that others, but you can tell when something is bugging her. Never has there been a time when my daughter has gotten into the car and immediately burst into tears. Friday night was a first for that.

She’s 17 and going into her senior year.

She has endured mental and emotional abuse from her mother for YEARS and I have fought to change the custodial situation several times in court, at great expense and to no avail.

Courts hate fathers. But that’s a story for a different day.

Anyway, my daughter cried for a few minutes and then said it was “nothing.” “It happens all the time.” “It’s just the way it is.” She explained what was going on and said she didn’t wanna live there any more but knows she is stuck. She’s tough, but it still hurts her.

Breaks my heart…because there is nothing I can do at this point but point out that she’ll be 18 next year and will graduate high school and then she can make decisions for herself.

I reassured her that it isn’t normal, it shouldn’t be this way, and that it doesn’t happen all the time. That’s not how mother’s treat their children. Deep down, she knows this.

How can her mom be like this? Why is she such a manipulative, conniving, bi-polar B*tch? (Yeah, that capital letter was on purpose) What makes her think that her behavior is acceptable at any level?

She’s already alienated our daughter enough that she hates being there. Doesn’t want to go back. Can’t wait to get out. Is biding her time until she can completely abandon that relationship, at least temporarily. She likely won’t sever it completely because she still loves her mom…but she wants separation.

My heart hurts.

Hang on, baby girl, just nine more months…

Negative

I am on the mend. The summer cold was truly that, a summer cold. I doubt many of you out there were worried. I mean, no one really cares, right?

However, my mind was eased by a negative result on the test (you know, that one that many people think they should get the moment they cough). So, I can rest assured that my parents haven’t been exposed by me and they can travel to see their parents in the near future.

And, nothing else has changed either. I am still negative all around too. So, don’t worry. You won’t see much on the positive side here on the blog.

I am thoroughly sure that there isn’t anything good happening in the world today. Perhaps the sky really is falling.

Anyway, we’ll be back to the regularly scheduled Piss & Moan here shortly.

Have a crappy weekend.

Testing, testing…

Photo by Retha Ferguson on Pexels.com

Well, I went through the surreal experience of being tested for Covid today.

As I said yesterday, I don’t think this is anything more than a summer cold.

But, out of the abundance of caution for the family members that I may have exposed since this thing hit me on Saturday, I went and got tested. For peace of mind’s sake, I do want to know if I have exposed my parents and I do want to know if I need to let my dad know since he is wanting to go visit his mom. Plus, there are other family members that we can’t be too careful with as well.

So, through the stupid maze of traffic cones I went, stopping at two different tents set up by the state of Washington and the county. First the questions tent, then the swab tent. It didn’t take long, but it does feel like its all unnecessary.

Anyway, I’ll know whether I am negative (by nature, you already know that is true if you follow this blog!! LOL) or if I am positive (highly unlikely, medically or personality wise) in about 72 hours.

Which should I hope for?

*Sniffle*

Not sure how it happened. Not sure how long it will last.

Some how, the summer cold found me on the roof.

It started a couple days ago. Notice a scratchy throat and a little discomfort swallowing. Today, full blown head congestion and a nose that thinks it’s time to run a marathon.

Laying low today. (Called in sick, even though I work from home)

Guess it is time to catch up on some of my own paperwork, binge watch some shows, and play some video games. Time to rest.

Cool sculpting

I saw a commercial last night for a weight-loss process called, cool scuplting. Apparently this is a trend that is catching on. The way I understand it is that they freeze fat cells and then when they thaw out they magically break down and vanish. At least that is what I gathered from it.

When I did a quick Google search, there are places here locally that offer this interesting (and apparently safe?) weight loss technique/process. So, I guess I could go inquire about it if I was really interested.

Is it covered by insurance? I mean, if not being overweight is more healthy then I would think this should thing should be covered by insurance.

This pandemic thing has cause me to eat. Well, actually, I always eat. It didn’t just start because of the pandemic. But, what I mean, is that it feels like I am eating all the time since I work from home. The scale says I am maintaining, but when I look in the mirror it doesn’t appear as though I am maintaining. Maybe the weight just happens to appear where the mirror can see so I feel like I am gaining weight. Again, the scale says I haven’t. But I am definitely not losing any…

Anyway, I was thinking, since I have weight I could lose, that I could maybe try this cool sculpting thing. I really don’t want to pay for it though. That’s an issue.

I do, however, have a box freezer. A big one! If all you have to do is freeze fat cells then I am set! I don’t need to visit some clinic.

I’m gonna try to clean out some stuff from the box freezer so I can lay down in there. It should only take a couple hours. I’ll freeze all that extra fat around my belly, in my face and neck area, a little on my ass….this is gonna be epic!

Once those couple hours are done, I am gonna be back to the weight was was in high school. She will hardly recognize me.

Oh, I better get started. I don’t want her to find me in the freezer.

I wanna surprise her!

Festival bummer

This Covid, corona virus stuff is cancelling everything.

Sports. Concerts. Funerals. Weddings. Church. Parades. Street, county, and state fairs. Festivals. If it draws a large number of people, it’s likely been cancelled. They aren’t waiting to do it either. Most everything has been cancelled through the end of the year.

Now, I don’t do, or don’t even like some of those things listed above. But I believe people should have the right, even with precautions, to participate if they choose to do so. However, in a continuing move to scare everyone into compliance, everything is cancelled.

Well, almost everything. Not “protests.” Those are still allowed and even encouraged. Just wear a mask or not…

So, over the weekend, I learned that one of my favorite street festivals here in the county was cancelled. Major bummer. I loved going over to the city about 20 minutes away, parking, and then meandering about the booths looking at cool stuff, art, smelling the smells, and whatnot. It was a lot of fun.

Anyway, that’s when an idea struck me. If “protests” are allowed…HOLD THE STREET FESTIVAL ANYWAY! Hear me out here.

Do it anyway. Hell, all you have to do is slap some social justice slogans on it (pick one or nine, doesn’t matter), paint some signs (or the street, cuz you know that is the “in thing” right now), tell people to wear masks, shout some nonsensical stuff, and let people gather to “protest.” It would almost be like that CHAZ/CHOP thing in Seattle, right?

It’s like the perfect formula to do whatever the heck you want. It’s a license to celebrate, mourn, party, remember, whatever.

This is a great idea. Dare I say, it could even be a “protest” against tyrannical governors and health officials. That would be something. Wouldn’t it?

On the scene

Masked silliness.

It’s particularly hard to watch the news these days. No, I mean like actually watch it. Like tuning into your local news broadcast news and watch reporters reporting from the scene. Any scene.

Anyone else irritated by the fact that a reporter who is reporting from outside, in the open air, still has their mask on?

There is literally NO REASON to have the mask on while you are out in the fresh air. None. Well, other than if you are following (and trying to reinforce) the narrative being crammed down our throats, oh, and if you are virtue signaling.

We all know how the reporting thing works. We’ve seen how you do it for years. We know the person operating the camera for your “on the scene” reporting is likely more than six feet away from you. The reporter isn’t interviewing anyone for this “on the scene” report. Thus, there is no practical reason for having the mask on.

I see it time and again. The other day I saw a reporter who was along the side of a highway, where the wind blows furiously, with his mask on while reporting about cars parked along the highway. Like, he does know he is outside, right? He does know the wind is blowing like the dickens, right? He does know there is not a chance that he can catch or spread the virus while her reports here, right?

It’s actually kind of stupid that these reporters are perpetuating the fear instead of accurately reflecting the guidance we have been given about being out of doors. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen one reporter yet who actually has done a report of this kind without a mask. So, have then been instructed to perform this way?

That’s not objective reporting.

But, we already know they don’t really do that any longer.

Waffles

For someone who has a lot of opinions on a lot of thing Covid related, Fauci seemed to waffle an awful lot about protests and whether they are appropriate in the time of infectious disease.

Did you catch this exchange?

Did you get hungry for waffles? Because I did. Suddenly someone doesn’t have a straight answer about something infectious disease related, other than saying crowds without masks spread the virus.

Weird, I can’t go to work (I am working, every day but can’t GO to work) but I don’t work in a crowd.

But I CAN go to Walmart, Costco, Home Depot…where there are crowds of people…buy liquor (or pot, if that is your speed) at a store, where there are also crowds.

Inconsistent? Hell, yes.

Should we limit protests? No, probably not. Can a peaceful protest be done and still keep spreading the virus? Very possible. Should a violent, riotous crowd (“protest” if you’re a Liberal) be limited? For sure. Can that same crowd keep from spreading the virus? Highly unlikely.

That’s the insanity of all this. Any rational person can see the fallacy of what we are being told. If you read between the lines, you can clearly see that Fauci wants to have an opinion on those types of crowds, but he doesn’t go far enough to say so because, well, if he did the Liberal media and extreme left fringe groups would turn on him too. Soon it would be time for them to “cancel” him too.

Rational people can see what is going on. There is no question about it.

Now, where’s the syrup?

Peter pays Paul

palm trees

Again, California and it’s Democrat leadership is getting it wrong. Again, and again, and again…

Apparently the Democrats there, well, anywhere really, think that money grows on magical trees.

They want Peter to pay Paul, by borrowing against the future and against an economy that won’t be able to support said future.

Essentially, Democrats are trying to buy votes for the upcoming elections, instead of being fiscally responsible. Whether the federal government is going to continue the increased unemployment giveaway, California is looking for ways to do it.

Do it? Yes, at the expense of the future by borrowing and borrowing and borrowing and then taxing and taxing and taxing. All under the guise that this giveaway will stimulate job growth. Not sure if they understand how job growth works, but you don’t tax businesses to death and then assume people will hire more people. It just doesn’t work that way. Businesses cut people off the payroll when they get taxed into oblivion.

Oh, and let’s not forget the “safety net” they are thinking they will provide will also be given to illegal immigrants who have lost their jobs. So, spending money on people who shouldn’t be here in the first place at the expense of people who should be here. That makes total logical sense (sarcasm)…and continues to perpetuate the encouragement of illegal immigration.

Insane. Idiotic. Stupid. Moronic.

So many words to describe California, all applicable.
