Lunchroom litter

img_4945

Why does there need to be 90 (ok, exaggeration) old magazines in the lunchroom? Why do they need to be spread out on the table like a bad potluck of 12 different kinds of spaghetti? This isn’t a dumping ground for your magazines and flyers.

Why doesn’t someone get rid of these things and just move on? Better yet, if I just tossed them would anyone mind?

Fishing is not relaxing

THE activity of vacation was a fishing trip off Vancouver Island, BC, Canada (you have probably heard me talk about this a little this week). It was the whole purpose of the trip, to put fish in the boat and fill up the freezer with as much salmon and bottom fish as possible.

Well, I would like to tell you that fishing is not relaxing and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying…

Early mornings. Why is it the fish only seem to want to take the bait early in the morning? How early, well, for nearly a week it was 4:30 or 5:00am so in my case that is at least 30 minutes before I normally get up for work.

Rough waters. Now, some of you probably fish on the bank of a river or on a nice calm lake. Honestly, that isn’t fishing…if the fish you catch are less that 5 pounds, all you caught was a “water rat.” Anyway, that is beside the point. Ocean fishing involves waves. Rolling waves and choppy seas. You spend much of the time fighting to maintain your balance and the rest of the time trying not to fall overboard. Never mind the rough bouncing and banging of the boat trip just to get to the fishing spot. Yeah, not relaxing.

Stress. There is stress in fishing. Why? Well, because you want to catch fish, that is why you’re there. When you aren’t catching fish, the stress mounts because you aren’t catching fish. Each time you have a fish on and then don’t get it into the boat, the stress builds a little more until finally you’re so high strung that jumping overboard actually becomes an option.

Lost fish. With each fish that doesn’t make it into the boat, you start to wonder what you are doing wrong. “I must be doing something wrong because I’m not getting it into the boat,” you think to yourself. So you try something different, only to not have it work and then you return to what you were originally doing. Let me tell you, those thieving sons of fishies will take your bait in a heartbeat and then spit the hooks like they were tossing garbage to the curb. Frustration mounts.

Cleaning and packing. If you happen to catch fish, then you have to clean them, pack them, then ice/freeze them. The boat has to be cleaned eat night from the saltwater and the fish guts. You have to pack for a trip of uncertain weather and success. You have to unpack from the trip and do laundry, after getting very little sleep all week.

Tell me, where was the relaxing vacation again?

Buzz off life sucker

Eco system and “circle of life” aside, the worst insect with an active impact is the mosquito.

Why the heck are them things alive anyway? I was just on a vacation on the upper end of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada and the little suckers are everywhere! In the trees, on the dock in the cove, on the porch of the lodge, in the lodge, in the room…there was no getting away from them! The worst part was going to bed at night and having to douse myself in bug spray to keep from getting bit, sweating in bed from being afraid to expose skin, and not sleeping because you are afraid of getting bit and then itching non-stop for a week.

Nonetheless, I came home with bites and an itch that is truly distracting. Little buggers could go extinct as far as I am concerned and the world would probably be better for it, considering of all the diseases they carry. How much sickness and suffering would be solved if they just all died? A whole lot I think!

Anyway, what “life sucking” insect do you have a great disliking for?

Commuting Chaos

I commute just under 90 miles every day. If that isn’t enough to drive someone nuts, according to surveys and studies, I also commute in the worst traffic in the country. Here’s the thing, it probably really doesn’t have to be.

I’ll just come right out and say it, I commute with a lot of stupid people, which is weird since a lot of them should be smart considering the whole population of Boeing, Microsoft, Amazon, and other tech industry companies in the area. Because I commute the at the same time each day, in both directions, I see the same people/cars (mostly) everyday. And, because they are doing the same thing as me each day, you would think that they would know better. Thus, they are stupid. This can be the only explanation.

Why are they stupid? Because they are the ones causing the problem. Yes, the roadway is packed with cars. Yes, the traffic moves much slower than the speed limit. BUT, when they drive stupidly and have little to no patience, they are the ones causing the problem. For example: cutting people off, not letting people merge, tailgating, driving distracted, weaving in and out of traffic trying to get ahead…etc, bashing into others, etc…You know the people. You have seen them, but hopefully you aren’t one of them.

Studies also show that when you drive with patience and courteously, traffic moves more smoothly and everyone gets to where they are going more quickly. So, let’s do that people!

PLEASE, STOP BEING STUPID.

Seriously, guys, why so slobbish?

I am going to go out on a generalization limb here…guys are freaking slobs (moan).

I know, there is something weird about me saying that since I am one but I don’t think I am a slob and I think my wife would agree if you asked her. I pick up after myself. I put stuff away, where I found it. I clean. Maybe, I am the oddity?

Anyway, my place of employment shares a building with another organization and I can safely say that the guys in the other organization are freaking slobs. I can safely say that because my company only has three males at this location and two of them are on vacation – leaving me as the only guy in the building that doesn’t belong to the people upstairs.

That being said, guys, if you can’t aim that “waste disposal tube” at the urinal and get every drop in there – then sit the hell down! Why do guys have such a hard time with this? At work, at the ballpark, at a restaurant, in a Honeybucket, you name it and there is likely piss all over the place…the edge of the urinal, the wall, the floor…every. freaking.where. Seriously? Get a grip, and I mean that quite literally.

So you move from one gross mess to the next. After leaving the “splash-o-rama urinal,” you turn around to wash your hands and it looks like a baby elephant just took a freaking bath in the sink. There is water everywhere and its puddled up all over the counter! #WTH  Did any water actually make it back in the sink? Good grief people! Clean up after yourselves.

Seriously, you guys are gross.

*Pictures are not from my actual building because that would be gross, and why would I make you guys put up with that too?*

Freedom requires responsibility

img_4855

Well, it was July 4th yesterday, as most of you are aware I am sure (at least my U.S. readers). That’s right, a celebration of our independence and freedom. However, the independence and freedom we were celebrating yesterday also comes with some responsibility.

I am generally not opposed to freedom, though I also am a believer that if you allow people to be stupid by choice, well, they’ll take advantage of it. I mean, most people have common sense but there are way more people out there that lack it and, quite frankly, probably run from it. That is a discussion for another day…

Anyway, we did something out of the ordinary and didn’t stay close to home. Instead, we went to a big city, with lots of people. I like to people watch and my general sense that people are dumb was confirmed, as usual.

In Washington, pot (weed, marijuana, ganja, whatever you wanna call it) is legal. Not only is it legal, but if you are 21 you can pretty much smoke it openly (though technically it is illegal in public, no one enforces it). As such, people use their freedom (or is it take advantage of their freedom?). Yesterday was no exception.

The sad part is that it was in the open, with lots of people (many of whom by the looks on their faces) who didn’t smoke, AND with children in close proximity. When I say children, I mean from infant to teens. Not just their own kids, but other families’ also. When I say close proximity, I mean within 2 feet all the way up to 30. Needless to say, there were lots of people getting the second-hand smoke and many were not pleased about it.

I am not on board with smoking, anything, but I recognize people will do what they want to do if allowed to. I am sure these people light up often in their own personal space, where it should be kept. BUT, if you have children or there are children around then you should refrain. PERIOD. If you choose to do it to your own body, fine. Secondary smoke is not acceptable, especially if the littlest are exposed and they have no say in the matter at all. Yes, I could have gotten up and moved. I get it. However, I am sure the children of these particular people are subjected to that second-hand smoke on a regular basis, especially since they so boldly and openly smoked right there with hundreds of others who were not smoking.

It makes me sad, really. Thoughtlessness prevails, again. Responsibility fails, again. Freedom isn’t always a good thing and stupid people prove it, again.

**Trigger warning: This post may cause rage. Best solution, common sense. If you have it, then the rage is probably appropriately place. If you don’t have it, then you are probably part of the problem.**

THAT neighbor…

You guys, I have one of THOSE neighbors.

You know, that neighbor that seems to have no sense of time and makes noise at all hours of the day and night.

When he first moved in he got dogs. They bark at all hours of the day, all day long. Well, to be fair, just one of the dogs barks. The other one seems to be able to maintain control of his barking. I secretly think maybe the other dog gets annoyed at the barking like I do.

He put in a hot tub in the back yard. Great, I like hot tubs. But, he has friends over and then they laugh and talk and drink and smoke and seem to have no idea what time it is. So, late into the night there are people talking next door. Again, not a bad thing, but during the summer our windows are open and can hear everything, which means we are awake when he is awake.

Now, since it is summer and the days are longer, he thinks that he needs to use every daylight hour available to him. We live in the city, not on a farm, so there are more neighbors around than just me. Yet, this morning there was hammering, an air wrench, and a chainsaw…all before 6:30am. Again, our windows are open in the house, so we’re all up at the crack of dawn.

Dude, get a grip! Let’s have a little decency when it comes to noise pollution.

Abnormally large litter

img_4824.jpg

There are these companies in Seattle that put out these bikes so people can ride them whenever and wherever they want. Great concept, but execution sucks hardcore.

img_4823.jpgNow, when you are in and around Seattle, you see these stupid unattended bikes littering street corners, parks, lakes, alleys, rivers, etc. all over the city. I have even seen on the news that they are getting tossed off bridges and getting destroyed. Obviously there are others who don’t like them too.

Do people really ride these things? I haven’t seen anyone, have you? But I sure see them left everywhere. Yesterday, in a short four block walk, I saw about 70 bikes in various states of rest. I only captured four on camera because I could have spent an hour trying to take a picture of all of them. I just don’t see how this improves anything. We might as well buy a fleet of Tesla cars, charge them, and then leave them unlocked and pay-walled around the city. At least then they would be parked and not just left willy-nilly everywhere.

Like I said, concept may be good, but the execution leaves something to be desired. Are we so desperate for transportation in the city that we have to put up with abnormally large litter?
