Celebri-Don’t talk to me!

We’re all to blame for this, and we’re all dumber because of it.

Why do we constantly have to be bombarded with the opinions and thoughts of celebrities, former government officials, psuedo-celebs, and athletes? Oh, wait, because we show interest in what they say instead of being indifferent to their opinions.

I tell ya, I am tired of hearing from celebs who think we need to know their opinions. Former presidents endorsing political candidates. Musicians campaigning for politicians. Movie stars telling us what they think about social issues. Former FBI directors telling us whether or not an investigation is legit. B-level celebs making videos about the environment and what we should do about it. Former vice presidents touring the country giving speeches about pet projects. Etc., etc., etc.,…

Good, lord, its amazing we have survived this long.

Wanna make America great again? Stop listening to people who think they’re great. Better yet, stop helping people who think they’re great become great by listening to them.

Ya’ll should be ashamed of yourselves.

Skeletons, oh the skeletons!

Everyone has skeletons. This is a fact.

No one is perfect. We all have things in our past that we likely regret. We all have things in our past we would rather not have others know about. We all have things in our past that we’re embarrassed about. We all have things in our past we would probably like to take back or change.

The expectation that those who are in the public life, whether in government service or celebrity, be perfect and have no skeletons in their past is absurd. This is an impossible standard and one that no one can meet. Quite frankly, we, the American public, should be ashamed of ourselves for expecting this standard and for mistakenly trying to create it. Not all skeletons can be ignored and some most definitely shouldn’t be; however, there is also a limit to what should be considered when determining the true character of a person. Time and behavior have to be considered. Character isn’t built in a day, for good reason.

If you have ever considered a public life, or even if you haven’t considered it but some how end up with one, you better keep your head down. “They” are coming for you! It doesn’t matter who you are, what you’ve done, how long ago it was, or even what side you’re on. “They” are gonna find you and get you. It doesn’t take evidence. It doesn’t take witnesses. It doesn’t take corroboration. It just takes accusations and allegations. No proof needed. It doesn’t matter if you’re innocent or not, maybe the skeleton doesn’t even exist. No matter. “They” are gonna get you!

Our Founders are rolling over in their graves. None of them were perfect, but at least they understood that about others nor did they expect it.

If you are currently in a place of power, in the government, a celebrity (major or minor), or just a regular person…you should just stop doing whatever you’re doing and resign. Go live in a hole and interact with no one, because eventually your skeletons will come out of the closet and no one is exempt from being haunted by them.

Punctuate that!

The downfall of society is coming (well, some would argue it is already here).

Dramatic much? No, I don’t think so.

Language is important. Unfortunately, people are lazy and that translates to poor language skills, as well as a plethora of other bad habits.  So, what is the deal with the lack of punctuation in nearly every social media platform? Yes, the option to punctuate is available but it seems fewer and fewer people are choosing to do so. Maybe we can blame it on Twitter – 140 characters is rather limiting and why waste it on punctuation? I get it, but at the same time it isn’t cool.

Grandmothers and small children are being eaten, for the love of everything holy! Some classic examples of why punctuation is important:

“Let’s eat grandma!” vs. “Let’s eat, grandma!”

“We just ate Timmy.” vs. “We just ate, Timmy.”

Oh, and while we’re at it, how about we throw in some capitalization as well?

Anyway, I read an article not long ago that said if I use punctuation in text messages, like a period at the end of the sentence, that I am angry. WTH? Who made up these stupid rules? That’s a pretty big ASSumption to make when I am just using the rules of writing because I don’t want to look like an uneducated dumbsh*t. Got me?

Punctuate. Communicate properly.

Apparently you’ve got nothing better to do

So, apparently, there are people out there with nothing better.

Nothing better to do than engage you in an effort to try and pick a fight on the internet.

I believe they call them “trolls” these days.

Obviously, you can’t avoid them completely, especially if you have an opinion and express it. I know we all have one now and again, and we express them knowing full well that you may be entangled in an argument that will go nowhere but in circles. Yeah, that’s fun…just like a ferris wheel only dumber.

I especially love those kind of trolls that seek you out and ask you questions just so they can try to “get you”. Not gonna do it. Crawl back under your bridge or rock, into your hole, walk back down into your dark and dank basement (we all know where you are, really).

Please, continue to live out your existence lonely and in your underpants.

The “Poor Me” Society

Well, there are a whole lot of people these days that you just can’t seem to make happy or placate in any way. We have become a society that immediately jumps on social media or goes to a media outlet of one kind or another to vent the “injustice” one has just suffered.

“Poor Me”

Got a bad meal? Poor me. Post about it on social media and post a nasty review on Yelp (or other place to do a review).

Got treated unfairly? Poor me. Rage post on all forms of social media.

Life generally sucks for ya? Poor me. Complain to everyone over social media.

Got discriminated against because I’m *insert laundry list of issues*? Poor me. Call them out on social media.

*insert laundry list of issues* offended me. Poor me. Everyone else should be offended too.

Life is hard. Poor me.

I don’t have what others have. Poor me.

*this* isn’t what I expected/wanted. Poor me.

We have a problem people. I am not sure if this is a generational thing, but it is sure starting to feel like it is. We have a whole generation of people who just can’t cope with whatever challenge or difficulty comes up in their lives. If it is hard or they meet resistance, they just quit – or rage on social media so everyone can feel their “pain.” Instead of meeting it head on, fighting for it, working harder, working smarter, or making do with what they have been given and where they have been given it, they instead try to generate outrage from everyone else so that their problem will be fixed by someone else.

We really need a change. We have allowed it to happen and that’s a shame.

 

The land of accusations

American ideals are dying and it is a perplexing conundrum.

The very foundations of our country were set up so that abuses by the government, or government aided abuses, would be avoided. The Founders of the country knew all too well that when the government can abuse it citizens it has too much power. Or, at the behest of citizens, it can be used to persecute other citizens. We have, for all intents and purposes, come full circle on one of the abuses the Colonies complained about when they wrote and published the Declaration of Independence for all the world to see.

Innocent until proven guilty.

In our current society, it no longer exists.

All it takes these days are accusations, a pointed finger, or a social media wildfire. The media sets out to convict people in public opinion before charges are even filed. Gone are the days of proof. Gone are the days of evidence. Gone are the days of committing an actual crime. If you stand accused, or have an allegation lodged against you, you are guilty. Plain and simple.

Our systems isn’t perfect and there can always be improvement, but in my mind we are headed in the wrong direction on this issue.

Fleeing followers on Instagram

Growing an Instagram account can be tough. Getting people to follow you, to share you, to like and comment is down right challenging.

What really sucks is that you start to see some results and people are beginning to follow you and then they flee – unfollow almost as fast as they followed you. At first I was being courteous and following them back, but I soon learned that these accounts were following my account just so they could get a follow and then they would unfollow my account.

Well, if that doesn’t just burn ya up, I don’t know what will. People work really hard to create good content so the can get followers and really make an effort to do it via a legit method (I mean I get spam offers for “follower generators” all the time). Kinda makes ya mad, ya know?

Is that really how people get followers to their accounts? Spam follow accounts and hope they follow you back?

Clickbait and Google News feed

Click bait 1

The clickbait around here is so obvious it hurts. The screen shot of the Google News feed from a few days ago is a prime example. All of the news articles are about the same topic, on the same day, but one of them is using the “clickbait” title tactic.

CNN should know better than this, but I guess that is what we can expect when you’re desperate to compete. Notice all of the other headlines are pretty much the same, but CNN takes it to the next level of sensationalism. Also, when you look at the timing of the article – “one hour ago” – you can clearly see that it wasn’t “just tweeted” or “something new”. Again, it is an under-handed and dishonest attempt to get traffic on their site. Pure clickbait and there is no way of defining it any other way.

The fact that is stands out so obviously is disturbing, though I suppose if you get your news via social media or something similar there is probably no point of reference and you probably would click on it. CNN once used to be a reliable source of news info, but as you can see headlines like this make it a “less than news service.” You can also see why so many people bash on CNN for being a terrible purveyor of news and information.

People need to stop “consuming” this crap. It is time for CNN to go away because it’s desperation is showing.

The annoying host

Anyone else think Tyra Banks is annoying as hell?

You would think after the extremely rough start she had last year, being severely awkward and overly obnoxious, that she would have figured it out for this year. But no, year two of her hosting duties on America’s Got Talent is just as awkward and just as annoying.

Maybe it just that I was a big fan of Nick Cannon. I don’t know. But maybe it’s just that she is trying too hard. I don’t know. But, they could actually cut her out of the show (which I noticed the last episode was very limited) and most people wouldn’t even notice.

She isn’t entertaining and never has been. Shouldn’t the host have at least as much talent as the contestants?
